Continuous education of medical professionals of CBR for mine victims rehabilitation in Bosnia and Herzegovina

09.01.2012
On December 2011 a one year project “Continuous Education of Medical Professionals of CBR for Mine Victims rehabilitation in BH” implemented by HOPE’87 sucessfully ended. The concept of medical rehabilitation for mine victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina was organized through the Community Based Rehabilitation - CBR Centres which have been involved in the primary health care. HOPE 87 has included the rehabilitation teams from all CBR’s in Bosnia-Herzegovina, significantly improving the access to medical rehabilitation services at the level of the entire community – a total of 54 CBR centres from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina were involved in the project.

Through valuable input of local and international medical experts, the rehabilitation teams of CBRs in Bosnia-Herzegovina obtained efficient, professional and standardized knowledge on internationally recognized mine victims’ rehabilitation techniques. The implemented project activities increased the quality and expertise of medical personnel of the rehabilitation teams at CBR’s throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina, motivated them to gain additional experience in accordance with international standards, especially in the field of internationally recognized techniques in mine victim rehabilitation – Neuromuscular Taping therapy and Complex decongestive physical therapy /CDPT approach, along with the education and exchange of information among all the CBRs. All participants acquired additional knowledge passing it on in the framework of health reform process in their communities/CBR.

All project activities were carried out in close co-operation with the BH Federal Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Republic of Srpska and other CBR coordinators.

Donor for the project was the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs through International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victim Assistance.
