Demining works on the project “Area of National Park Krka” in Šibenik Knin County in Croatia started in September 2012

03.10.2012
Demining works on the project “Area of National Park Krka” in Šibenik Knin County in Croatia started in late September 2012. The project in total area of 204.417 m2 consists of 5 project areas that stretch in the vicinity of three cities: Šibenik, Skradin and Drniš.  Part I of the project area is located in the village of Lozice and part II and III lie in the village of Goriš while part IV of the project area lies in the village Nos Kalik . All four parts of the project area are contaminated with unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) of type KB -1 according to data provided by Croatian Mine Action Center (CROMAC) as these areas were hit by the rocket-launching system type “Orkan” during the war. Part V of the project area is contaminated with landmines.

By clearing the areas contaminated with KB-I bomblets and landmines the mine threat in  the project area will be completely removed from the Nature Park Krka. Funds for the implementation of this project were provided by the National Park Krka through the foundation “Croatia without mines” with ITF matching the available funds with funds provided by the “Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs”.

Following the open bid tendering process published by ITF on 5 May, 2012 the works on the project “NP Krka” were awarded to the company TORNADO Ltd. (subcontractor HEXOGEN Ltd). Clearance works on the project are expected to be finalized by 30 November, 2012 at the latest.
