ITF Director visits Japan

17.06.2015

Ambassador Damjan Bergant, Director of ITF, visited Tokyo, Japan on 15 and 16 June 2015. During his visit Ambassador met with Mr. Ryo Nakamura, Director of Central and South Eastern Europe Division, and Mr. Kenji Hiramitsu, Deputy Vice Minister for Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

With 1 million USD contributed for mine action activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1999, Japan was among the first donors that supported ITF at the very beginning. It remains one of the foremost members of ITF’s donor community that has so far supported demining activities in South East Europe with nearly 2.5 million USD.

While in Tokyo, Ambassador Bergant expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Japan for their continuous support throughout the years and hope it will continue so. He and his interlocutors agreed that models of an additionally reinforced relationship between ITF and Japan should be sought in future.
