Virtual Education Program relaunched with all 10 telemedicine centers in Cape Verde connected to the network

The first two 2014 lectures of the Cabo Verdean Virtual Education Program were delivered by Prof. Rifat Latifi, President of the International Virtual e-Hospital Foundation and Project Director of the Integrated Telemedicine and e-Health Program of Cape Verde (ITeHP-CV), a multiyear project funded by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia through the ITF Enhancing Human Security and implemented by IVeH. On Wednesday, January 29th, Prof. Latifi delivered a lecture on the early management of the trauma patient. He addressed the virtual audience from the Telemedicine Center of Sao Filipe in the island of Fogo. It was the first time that all the 10 telemedicine centers of the ITeHP-CV were connected in an educational event. This after the experts of NOSi completed the connectivity in the Telemedicine Center of Brava, the tenth and the last center to add to the network. During separate meetings with the Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Maria Cristina Fontes Lima and with the Technical Director of NOSi, Mr. Helio Varela, Prof. Latifi said that he was extremely proud that IVeH is implementing what is probably “… the best effort in the field of telemedicine and e-health even happened in an African country. It is thanks to the Ministry of Health visionary leadership and NOSi technical excellence that this project was materialized within a record period of little more than a year”. Minister Fontes Lima congratulated the implementation team during a meeting held on Friday, January 31st, 2014 at the Ministry of Health premises. She expressed the willingness and support of her institution to expanding the program to cover other clinical disciplines and also to go include the primary health care and family medicine, as well. “Anyway, we must consolidate the accomplishments of this phase, before moving forward to other challenges”, Her Excellency told to Prof. Latifi. Earlier this week, the Minister signed the order that officially establish the National Telemedicine Program in the Republic of Cape Verde. The order will be followed with the appointment of a National Telemedicine Coordinator and the National Telemedicine Advisory Council.
